1. BUILD YOUR THEME
It’s the most wonderful time of the year - theme development season! Any time spent before the end of the year or over the summer with your yearbook staff working on next year’s book helps set you up for success in the coming year.

2. ENGAGE YOUR COMMUNITY
As the summer unfolds, so do hundreds of opportunities to gather content for your upcoming yearbook. Summer sports, jobs, camps, adventures, hobbies - empower your community to contribute their photos and keep all your photos organized in one place by setting up and promoting Photo Share.

3. RECOGNIZE YOUR STAFF
Your staff works hard, so give them the kudos and time to reflect on a job well done. Combine fun with an end-of-the-year banquet. Find a space, add food, decorations and music, and a slide show of yearbook staff in action. Give awards, and announce next year’s leaders.

4. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF
You spent the year teaching and guiding others - now it’s time to relax. Take in a matinee and some free air conditioning. Indulge in the beach and a good book. Explore new places with friends and family. Enjoy a picnic and take an aimless stroll or challenging hike. Whatever floats this boat is not a guilty pleasure - it’s much needed YOU time.

5. BUILD YOUR STAFF
Yearbook may take a break during summer, but the fun doesn’t have to stop. Compile summer contact info for your editors, returners, and incoming students to nudge them to attend summer workshops. A quick Google form can get all the information you need. If you haven’t selected editors yet, hand out editor applications to returning students and encourage them to brainstorm ideas for the fall. Building strong staff leadership helps you, but ultimately benefits everyone.

6. EXPAND YOUR HORIZONS
Summer workshops are the best way to brush up your skills and get a jump on next year’s book to make it the best yearbook ever! Summer workshops are the perfect balance of learning, meeting other yearbookers, and creation that pay off over the next nine months. Whether attending Jostens Adviser University of Jostens National Yearbook Workshop, you can also earn grad credit!
